Attendance Management

Tracking when employees start work, finish, take breaks, and are absent — automatically compared against shift schedules.

Definition

Attendance management is the systematic process of recording when employees arrive for work, depart, take breaks, and are absent — and comparing those actual attendance records against the expected schedule. The goal is accurate payroll, shift compliance visibility, and absence pattern analysis. Modern attendance management software does this automatically, eliminating paper sign-in sheets and manual records.

How Attendance Is Captured

  • Desktop agent session detection — DeskAgent logs when an employee's computer becomes active, providing automatic clock-in without any manual action
  • GPS geofencing — field workers automatically clocked in when they enter a job-site geofence boundary
  • Device verification — registered-device and session check at clock-in for secure, fraud-resistant attendance (webcam identity KYC on roadmap)
  • Manual clock-in — mobile or web-based manual entry for roles without device detection

What Attendance Management Software Does

  • Compares actual clock-in times against scheduled shift start times
  • Flags late starts, early departures, and no-shows automatically
  • Aggregates attendance data for payroll (total hours per period)
  • Provides absence trend analysis (frequency, patterns, unexplained absences)
  • Integrates with shift scheduling to close the attendance-payroll loop
